The perfect job interview

The first stage is over. With a convincing application, you have convinced the company to invite you for a job interview. Now the question is how to make a perfect impression. You ask yourself how? We show you how!

The Perfect Match

Basically, the job interview aims to find out how well you are suited for the open position and whether there is a "perfect-match" between you and the company.

To prove yourself, the first impression is of immense importance. This should be characterized by Watzlawick's axiom "You cannot not communicate". Accordingly, the interaction of facial expressions and gestures already steers your interview in one direction. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to these even in nervous situations in order to appear as relaxed as possible or to cover them up with thoughtful movements and a nice smile. At best, however, you should be open about it and tell your interviewer that you are nervous. Any recruiter will understand. Always remember that this is normal and take a deep breath.

The importance of preparation

In order to keep a cool head during the interview, you should acquire sufficient background knowledge . This includes not only the job description, but also the company's philosophy, culture, image and far-reaching competition. Amaze your interviewer with knowledge of the company's history and concrete objectives. Try to make it clear to the interviewer how well you fit into the existing team and what added value they can expect from you.

Since the interviewer wants to get to know you better, you should go beyond the skills you have in your resume. Present this on the outside and emphasize above all those character and social qualities that are important in the desired position, but do not necessarily have to be on the resume. Memorized monologues and answers that sound like they were shot out of a pistol can be perceived as negative, since they seem universally applicable and convey little personality. Don't shy away from the question of all questions: "What is your greatest weakness?". Quite the opposite. You can provide an insight into your development by pointing out weaknesses that you have overcome on your own initiative.

Be natural!

To make the flow of speech more natural, you should also familiarize yourself with the wording . Since you should not steer the course of the conversation at the beginning, the follow-up question round offers you the opportunity to show particular interest by asking questions, to refer back to previous topics and take them up further, or even to impart knowledge.

Theoretically simply explained however the practice often looks differently. Even with small faux pas you should not let yourself be upset, because these are also only human and are often humorously received by the interviewer through a small smile on your part.
